Iranian biopic ‘Takhti, the World Champion’ has revealed a new poster.

Directed by Bahram Tavakkoli and produced by Saeed Malekan, the film depicts the life of Iranian world wrestling champion Gholamreza Takhti.

Among the cast list are Atila Pesyani, Mahour Alvand, Hamid-Reza Azarang, Banipal Shoumoun, Parivash Nazariyeh, Behnoush Tabatabaee, Farhad Ayish, Siavash Tahmoures, Masoumeh Qasemipour, Setareh Pesyani, Alireza Goudarzi, and Shirin Yazdanbakhsh.

Tavakkoli’s film had its premiere at the 37th Fajr Film Festival, held in Iran on January 30-February 11, 2019.

The film got 11 nominations at the event and succeeded to win two Crystal Simorgh awards in the categories of Best Cinematography and Best Set Design.

During a campaign launched by the film crew, a number of Iranian athletes and artists got together at ‘Takhti, the World Champion’ screening to raise fund for recently flood-hit Iranians.

The campaign has collected more than 25,000,000,000 Rials. This is while the box office income for the movie, so far, roughly reaches 15,000,000,000 Rials.

From mid-March to April 2019, widespread flash flooding affected large parts of Iran, most severely in provinces of Golestan, Fars, Khuzestan, and Lorestan. Iran has been hit by three major waves of rain and flooding over a course of two weeks.

Takhti was born in Tehran on August 27, 1930. At the age of 15, he enrolled in Poulad Club in southern Tehran and was trained to become a wrestler.

He won his first Iranian championship in 1950 and later in 1951 he won a silver medal at the world freestyle championship in Helsinki, Finland. That was one of the first international medals gained by Iranian wrestlers.

Takhti also won several other medals, but that is not the only reason why he is so popular among Iranians. He proved to be a real hero by showing such exemplary character as being of any sort of help to the poor and needy.
